Welcome to Thoughts In Tremolo
Thoughts In Tremolo is a home for long-form writing on music, books, and creative work.
This is version 2.0 of this blog - redesigned & relaunched.
This is a focused collection of essays — not a content stream. Every piece is written with intent, grounded in research, and driven by genuine interest rather than trend.
What You’ll Find Here
Music — Reviews & Deep Dives
Heavy metal and rock are more than genres; they’re movements shaped by place, people, and time. This section explores that in detail:
- Concert Reviews — live events examined with context and reflection
(e.g. “Back to the Beginning” — Black Sabbath’s final reunion) - Artist Studies — long-form pieces on influential figures
(e.g. Ozzy Osbourne) - Album Analysis — structured, track-level breakdowns
Focus: heavy metal, rock, progressive, and the Birmingham scene.
Books — Historical & Critical Reviews
Long-form analysis of non-fiction, with an emphasis on history:
- Historical Works — WWII, military, and social history
(e.g. James Holland’s “Victory ’45”) - Critical Reviews — essays that go beyond summary into argument and context
Focus: history and music-related non-fiction.
Why “Thoughts In Tremolo”
A tremolo is the rapid oscillation between notes — the movement that gives sound its texture.
This blog exists in that movement:
between subject and context, detail and interpretation.
It’s also where I document my own work — both creative and technical — as it develops.
Approach
- Depth over volume — no short-form filler
- Context matters — nothing exists in isolation
- Personal, but not casual — experience informs the writing, not replaces it
- Long-form by default — complex subjects are treated properly
